Soundbite (French) EUTM Mali - Yamoussa Camara, Mali Defence Minister Interview
This video is an interview with Mali Defence Minister, Yamoussa Camara, at the Defence Ministry in Bamako, Mali, on 25 March, 2013 : "It's 15 months (EUTM mandate) and of course that will not be enough, but it will be enough time for us to train a core group that will be able to continue the training that has been started by EUTM. We know that this is not enough, and even at the level of equipment, the materiel that the European Union could provide will not be enough for us."

"We cannot allow acts of violence like this against a civilian population that we are meant to defend. So people have to understand that, even if they are isolated cases, they are not deliberate acts by the army and they will not go unpunished. We have a moral contract with the entire population and we intend to honour this contract to give confidence back to the entire people of Mali." "Our wish to avoid this never ending cycle of accusation and denial is that the civilian part of the MISMA operation be deployed as soon as possible so that neutral observers can be there on the ground, so that we can identify exactly who is doing what."

"The hardest part has been done now, I don't think it's necessary to keep the same number of (French) troops in place. There are groups that we will have to keep hunting to neutralize them completely, but we don't need all the troops that are here now to do that. If France does reduce numbers that won't pose us any particular problems because there are troops from MISMA who will be there, alongside Malian troops who are being trained back up to standard."
